National Library gives GALEX Awards

On the World Book and Copyright Day, when Moldova also celebrates the Librarian’s Day, the National Library partnered up with the League of Librarians “Alexe Rau” to organize the GALEX Awards Ceremony, IPN reports. 
 
The GALEX Awards were first announced in 2010, with the name being an acronym of Gavriil Bilevici and Alexe Rau, two former distinguished directors of the National Library.
 
The GALEX Award for the Biggest Political Supporter of Libraries was offered to three diplomats: US Ambassador Dereck J. Hogan, Romanian Ambassador Daniel Ionita and Lithuanian Ambassador Kestutis Kudzmanas.
 
Only the Romanian diplomat was able to attend the ceremony. Daniel Ionita expressed his gratitude for the award and said that the merit goes to the librarians’ Romanian colleagues, who have always supported Moldovan libraries. 
 
The Award for the Best Library Founder went to Tudor Golub, head of the Orhei District Council.
 
Best Promoter of Books and Lecture Awards were given to writers Aurelian Silvestru and Valeriu Matei, the latter also being head of the Romanian Cultural Institute in Chisinau.
 
Writer Nicolae Dabija won a GALEX Maecenate of Libraries Award.
 
Vitalie Gutu, a producer at TVR Moldova, was named the Best Promoter and Supporter of Libraries, Books and Lecture in the Mass Media.
 
Other GALEX Awards were given to Daniela Galai, project coordinator at IREX Europe Moldova, Jacob Nadal, Director for Preservation at the US Library of Congress, professor Nelly Turcan, Tatiana Gheiceanu of the National Library, Maria Cojocaru, director of the Drochia Library, Elena Harconita, director of the Library of the Alecu Russo University in Balti, and Diana Silivestru, department head at the National Library.
