The National Library of Moldova will observe “Europe Week” in the virtual sphere. On Europe Day in the Republic of Moldova, which this year is held online, the Library joins in the celebrations in such a format. On this occasion, it prepaid a selection of presentations and information contents on European themes for each day of the May 4 – 9 week.

Contacted by IPN for a comment, National Library director Elena Pintilei said Europe Day at the National Library was each year marked by events organized in coordination with the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research. According to her, these days are an additional reason for
promoting the collections of the libraries, both in traditional format and in the digital one.

Elena Pintilei noted that the previous years, when the country didn’t experience such a situation like the present one, “Europe Week” was celebrated by the National Library by organizing events involving ambassadors and representatives of the EU member states, different activities with the participation of children and young people, public lecturers and games designed to help these discover Europe in a distractive way together with librarians.

“During many years, we promoted the European values at the National Library by taking part in the European Digital Library of which the Digital Library “Moldavica” forms part. Respectively, by taking part in this digital library, we are already part of the European heritage. We have always promoted the current collections of the Digital Library “Moldavica” as a constituent part of the European component and the collections of other states, of our colleagues, European national libraries,” stated Elena Pintilei.

The information contents “Learning the history and significance of Europe Day, European Flag”,
“We inform ourselves/recapitulate what is difference between EU and CoE”, “Learning about resources and access to publications of EU and CoE” and others are available on Facebook and on the official website of the institution. Here, one can also find complete video recordings of exhibitions, events centering on the EU, the European cultural heritage and other topics that were staged in the library earlier.
