National Liberals: Opposition parties need to compile an Electoral Dossier

“The Communists Party and the Christian-Democratic People's Party resort to every method to stay in power, that is why the opposition parties shall compile the Electoral Dossier from Moldova and shall be ready to protests against the frauds.” The statement was made on December 16 by the president of the National-Liberal Party (PNL), parliamentarian Vitalia Pavlicenco, at a news conference hosted by Info-Prim Neo. Vitalia Pavlicenco says the effects of the electoral law, modified this year, “will cause political and national dramas in 2009.” “The political and electoral context has degraded, the free media are persecuted, the opposition do not have access to the debate public space, the Central Electoral Commission does not have a clear view on applying the electoral law – these are to prove there are no democratic conditions for free and fair elections,” Pavlicenco said. The PNL considers that boycotting the elections as some politicians suggest could be discussed at a round table of parties. The party earlier proposed to hold a round table according to the model of the ones of 2002-2003, and regrets this idea has not materialized. “The PNL considers the non-Communist parties should have a coordinated position on all the problems against the Communist rule, what would contribute to overcoming the despair and distrust within society. The PNL will go for the race jointly with the European Action Movement (MAE). Vitalia Pavlicenco says the parties have not decided yet whose list they will choose to run on, but agreed they won't quarrel because of this reason. The two parties are determined to talk with other Liberal parties to create “a anti-Communist pole.” Pavlicenco does not rule out a bigger Liberal party could emerge after the elections to join AMN, PL, MAE and PNL. PNL and MAE are certain will go past the electoral threshold of 6% together. Otherwise, “PNL and MAE do not consider they will yield votes to the Communists, since PLDM, AMN and PL state they will collect from 25 to 52% ballots and more.” The press conference was occasioned by the 2-year anniversary of the PNL. The politician says the party's largest achievement during this period was collecting signatures of MPs to modify the Constitution to cancel Moldova's neutrality, and to return to the name of the official language as Romanian.
