National Integrity Commission reacts to press reports about luxury cars of PCRM leader

The National Integrity Commission took notice of the press reports about the luxury cars of the family of the leader of the Communist Party (PCRM) Vladimir Voronin, Moldova’s ex-President, IPN reports, quoting Publika TV.

According to the Commission’s head Anatolie Donciu, they will verify the information disseminated by the media at the beginning of this week. “The Commission will examine the given materials and will decide whether to start an inquiry or not. If we identify discrepancies, we will take measures in accordance with the law,” he stated.

At the start of this week, the newspaper “Timpul” informed that the Voronin family has an impressive collection of armored cars, limousines and retro vehicles. A part of the vehicles are in the garage of the new, nonfunctional head office of the PCRM, which is situated on Armeneasca St in Chisinau. The other cars are in the garage of a residence of the Communist leader located in Germany.

The newspaper conducted an investigation and established that the family of Vladimir Voronin owns an armored Mercedes and a limousine Mercedes, a Cadillac, a limousine Audi A8, a mini Cooper, a jeep Volvo and a land cruiser Mitsubishi. The paper said that one of the family’s members can be seen on the streets of Chisinau driving a Porsche Cayenne.

In the garage in Germany, there were found a Maybach and a Mercedes McLaren, which were seen on the Chisinau streets. The leader of the PCRM owns a collection of retro cars from the Soviet period, including a ZIL, a Vaz, a Gaz and a Moskvich. None of the vehicles was included in the property statements of the Communist leader in 2012.

Vladimir Voronin told a newspaper that he likes very much epoch cars and assembled some from pieces. He avoided speaking about the last generation vehicles. The former spokesman for President Voronin, Valeriu Renita, in a program on Publika TV confirmed that the mentioned cars belong to the Voronin family.

According to experts, the collection of vehicles is valued at about 70 million lei.
