The draft national integrity and anticorruption strategy for 2017 – 2020 was examined in public debates in Parliament on March 28, 2017. The strategy contains 130 measures aimed at discouraging acts of corruption and 15 measures to increase legislative transparency and integrity of MPs. The document is to be debated by MPs this week, IPN reports.

Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu said this strategy is a very important document that will be implemented during the next three years. The document stipulates actions for each state institution and provides that an assessment report will be presented after each year.

The strategy defines seven integrity pillars: Parliament, Government, Public Sector and Local Public Administration, Justice and Anticorruption Bodies, Central Election Commission and Political Parties, Audit Office, People’s Ombudsman, and Private Sector. The Speaker expressed his regret at the fact that the pillar concerning Civil Society and the Mass Media was excluded. This was eliminated by the National Anticorruption Center, even if a number of MPs argued for its re-inclusion.

The strategy was worked out with the participation of anticorruption experts and representatives of expert NGOs and with support from UNDP within the project “Strengthening the Corruption Prevention and Analysis Functions of the National Anticorruption Center” that is implemented with the financial assistance of the Government of Norway.
