A network of 1,000 mentors from among the best teachers will be created within the National Institute of Education and Leadership which was constituted today by a Cabinet decision. The Institute will become functional on September 1, 2024, together with the start of a new school year, and will ensure the initial and continuous training of teachers, IPN reports.

According to the Ministry of Education and Research, the Institute will provide mentoring for professional development at the workplace, will be responsible for the development of new teacher training programs and will seek to make sure that each teacher in the country benefits from the necessary professional training.

“This is a safe and definite step towards ensuring the quality of teaching in our schools. We all know that the quality of studies and students’ interest in school are directly contingent on the teacher’s performance in the classroom,” stated Minister Dan Perciun.

The National Institute of Education and Leadership will have 17 employees. The teachers involved in mentoring will be remunerated additionally. The payments for mentoring services in 2024 will be covered by UNICEF.
