Vascular surgeons of the National Clinical Hospital “Timofei Moșneaga” extirpated a massive malign tumor situated in the neck of a female patient, IPN reports.

As the tumor was intensely vascularized, before removing it the surgeons used a minimally invasive endovascular technique to embolize the blood vessels close to the tumor. Massive hemorrhage was avoided this way.

The Ministry of Health said that if this hadn’t been extirpated, the 10 cm tumor would have beset the blood vessels and cranial nerves, affecting the functions of vital importance, such as breathing and blood circulation. Also, the malign cells could have spread and would have endangered the woman’s life.

The surgical team consisted of vascular surgeons Sorin Barat and Ștefan Manica, resident doctor Ion Bodiu, anesthesiologists Elena Cojocari and Andrei Ciocârlan, surgical assistant Tatiana Spînu.
