The National Greening Program will be kicked off until the end of this year. This is designed by a special working group. “We also want a green country. Forests mean clean air and water, rich soil and fewer droughts, high-quality products and healthy people. Today, with only 11% of forests of the necessary 25-30%, we are far from the set goal. But we are determined to make afforestation a general priority,” President Maia Sandu said in connection with the International Day of Forests, IPN reports.
The national greening campaign last autumn mobilized thousands of people of all ages and encouraged a follow-up. “In each locality, there are uncultivated lots, soil and water protection strips where trees and bushes can be planted. We call on you to lend a hand and to become the promoters of greening. I know that times are not at all easy. But crises will pass and we will be able to leave a green and clean country to the next generations,” stated President Sandu.
The International Day of Forests is marked on March 21.
