The national football squad of Moldova lost to Ukraine’s team 2-1 away in a match of the 2014 World Championship qualifiers, IPN reports.

The match was attended by over 30,000 people. Ukraine started well, creating several good occasions for scoring. In the first half, Moldova’s defense as well as goalkeeper Stanislav Namashko played well.

The first goal in the second half was scored by Andrei Yarmolenko after the Moldovan defense made a mistake. Afterward, Yevhen Khacheridi scored with the head after a corner. Moldova replied towards the end of the game through Alexandru Suvorov.

Ukraine’s Taras Stepanenko was eliminated in the second half after a severe fault on Vitalie Bordian.

”It was hard in the first half even if no goals were scored. I have nothing to reproach my pupils, especially because they endeavored to save the game towards the end,” Moldova manager Ion Caras said in a news conference.

”We lacked that positive energy, especially in the first half, when we missed several chances. I’m glad that we managed to win,” said Ukraine coach Mihail Fomenko.

After this defeat, Moldova remains fifth in Group H, while Ukraine ranks third and is closer to the leading Montenegro and England, which drew 1-1. Elsewhere, Poland beat San Marino 5-0. Moldova will play the next match of the qualification campaign at home on June 7.
