Moldova’s national football team tied at home 1-1 a match against Poland of the 2014 World Championship qualifiers.

The guests started forcefully and opened the score in the seventh minute through captain Jakub Blaszczykowski. The ‘tricolors’ recovered rather quickly and drew towards the end of the first half by the goal scored by Eugen Sidorenko after a combination with Vitalie Bordian.

In the second half, both of the teams made effort to score, but the scoreline remained unchanged.

“The footballers deserved this point. After the opponents scored a goal, we mobilized and started to play in a more organized way and thus managed to score. We are satisfied,” Moldova manager Ion Caras told a news conference.

“We had many occasions for scoring, but were unable to profit from them. Now we have to sustain the consequences,” stated Poland coach Waldemar Fornalik.

This is the first positive result for Moldova in the direct matches against Poland after suffering four defeats in the previous encounters.

Consequently, Moldova kept the fifth place in the rankings of Group H, which are topped by Montenegro that was beaten at home by Ukraine 0-4 the same day. Poland ranks fourth and has now lower chances of qualifying for the 2014 World Champs.

On June 14, Moldova plays a friendly against Kyrgyzstan at the Sherriff Sports Complex in Tiraspol.
