The farmers from Orhei district are dissatisfied with the fact that they do not have enough places where to keep the agricultural production. As the agricultural year is a good one and the wheat and corn harvests are expected to be high, most of the farmers will have to sell their products at very low prices. Valeriu Cosarciuc, chairman of the National Farmers Federation, called on the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry to create an intervention fund from which to buy wheat from producers at a higher price than on the market, IPN reports.

In a news conference in Isacova village of Orhei district, Valeriu Cosarciuc said that only this way will the negative effects of the surplus of grain put up for sale be reduced.

In the middle of the harvesting season, the farmers from Orhei district informed that the purchase prices of wheat are low, but the governmental factors didn’t react. A major problem faced by the farmers is the lack of storage facilities. Thus they have to sell the grain at a low price.

The farmers voiced hope that they will be heard by the authorities that should promote agriculture-friendly policy, not create obstacles.

The National Farmers Federation proposed issuing storage certificates for grain and that the grain companies in which the state owns majority holdings should exempt the agricultural producers from paying the storage tax for three months. It also asked for lower tariffs on other services that are to be provided to farmers.
