The Embassy of Ukraine in Chisinau invited ethnic Ukrainians to celebrate the country's Independence Day. They attended the official hoisting of the flag at the embassy, then laid flowers at the monument of poet Taras Shevchenko in Chisinau. Gennady Altuhov, Ukrainian Charge d'Affaires to Moldova, told reporters that Moldova's support for his country during these harsh times is much appreciated, IPN reports.
Altuhov said that the war in Ukraine changed the situation in the whole region. “We are united against the aggression of the Russian Federation, we feel how the whole Ukrainian nation, regardless of ethnicity, has united to fight the declared and undeclared enemy”, declared the diplomat. According to him, the Maidan protests of a year and half ago were a revolt of the nation against the regime, proving that the people are ready to continue the efforts of building a modern and European life in Ukraine, which would allow the country to fulfill its destiny in the family of European nations.
“We must choose: either to sit and cry, or to show the enemy that we aren't afraid, that we won't be crushed by this invasion. We stand united and ready to defend our values, our motherland”, said the official.
Altuhov thinks Ukraine's relationship with Moldova is friendly and special, given the territorial and historical closeness of the two nations. He underlined how, during the Russian aggression against Ukraine, Moldova supported its territorial integrity. He especially appreciated Moldova's categoric stance and declarations via several platforms, when other members of the Commonwealth of Independent States remained silent.
