The National Clinical Hospital has opened an endovascular surgery section that is equipped with modern angiographic apparatus to the value of €1.6 million that was purchased with a loan provided by the Government of Austria. The section will annually provide about 1,400 diagnostic and curative procedures for people suffering from diabetes, cancer, metastatic tumors and other severe diseases, IPN reports.
According to a communiqué of the Ministry of Health, three endovascular surgeons and three radiologists who gained experience outside the country work in the section. With the help of the angiographic apparatus, there will be performed surgeries on patients with severe concomitant diseases for which traditional surgical treatment is not recommended. As a result of endovascular operations, the wounds do not need to be sown. In most of the cases, the patients can be discharged in 1-3 days of the operation.
Minister of Health Andrei Usatyi said the opening of such a section represents an important step in the national medicine. There will be possible mini-invasive operations on veins under 2 millimeters in diameter. A diagnosis procedure with the help of the modern equipment costs between 6,000 and 40,000 lei and the costs will be covered by the health insurance policy. Those who do not have such a policy will pay the costs themselves.
