The Cabinet approved the creation of a national census commission for the 2020 World Round. Prime Minister Pavel Filip will head the commission, while Deputy Prime Minister Octavian Calmac and director general of the National Bureau of Statistics Vitalie Valcov will serve as deputy chairmen. The commission will also include representatives of the United Nations Population Fund in Moldova, ministers and other managers of the central and local public authorities, IPN reports.

According to the recommendations of the UN, censuses should be held once in ten years. Within the 2010 World Population and Housing Census Program, Moldova staged the general agricultural census in 2011 and the population and housing census in 2014.

The 2020 World Round includes a series of objectives and activities for the UN member states to organize at least one agricultural census in 2016-2025 and a population and housing census in 2015-2024.

The UN considers a census necessitates the planning and conducting of a series of activities at least 4-5 years before the census year.
