The national campaign to promote voluntary blood donation, staged by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection and the National Blood Transfusion Center during May 25 and June 25, this year is held under the theme “Safe blood for all”. The campaign is carried out in connection with the World Blood Donor Day that is annually celebrated on June 14.
Contacted by IPN for a comment, National Blood Transfusion Center vice director Silvia Roșca said the event is aimed at encouraging the population to donate blood so as to accumulate and maintain the necessary reserves of blood components. Blood donation events will be staged in all the health facilities of the country as part of the campaign. There will be distributed informative brochures so as to motivate the people to donate blood and this way to contribute to saving lives.
According to Silvia Roșca, Moldova never witnessed shortages of blood components. The reserves and the demands are constant. The population is receptive to authorities’ calls whenever blood donation campaigns are organized.
There are over 70,000 donors nationwide and more than 90% of these are voluntary donors.
