The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has launched a new version of its official website statistica.md on a trial basis. The procedure for modernizing the website was performed in the framework of the Technical Assistance to Support the National Bureau of Statistics of the Republic of Moldova Project (ParStat) that was implemented with the EU’s assistance in 2019-2022, NBS director general Oleg Cara stated in a project completion conference, IPN reports.

Oleg Cara said a new version of the website is necessary in order to meet the new requirements in the ICT sector and the needs of users of statistical data, which were formulated in the last online opinion poll concerning users’ satisfaction with the products and services provided by the NBS, which was carried out by the Bureau in 2021.

According to the poll results, the website of the NBS is the most popular one among all the Bureau’s products and services. The official website is visited by over 79% of the users. In general, the proposals concerning the official website received from users referred to the improvement of design, navigation and search method on the website. The users want a modern, simple website that is easy to use, with more disaggregated statistical data, stated the NBS director.

In July – August, the new website new.statistica.md will be subject to additional tests and will be updated in parallel with the current website www.statistica.gov.md.

As part of the project, 15 employees of the NBS and 40 field operators were trained to collect GIS data with tablet computers and to synchronize data in real time. Five employees were instructed in international relations, while 14 employees attended online courses within the European Statistical Training Program. Also, 60 employees studied English during six months. There were formulated recommendations concerning the list of statistical indicators for the whole National Statistic System and worked out the human resources policy of the NBS with specific recommendations regarding the recruitment and management of human resources.
