National bureau of statistics launched a report on men and women data

One of the basic goals of the National Bureau of Statistics
(BNS) further is development of gender statistics, including data on women and men and mirroring their situation in different fields of social life. BNS general manager Vitalie Valcov made this statement on Thursday, 30 March while launching the 3rd edition of the statistic report “Women and men in Moldova”.
He also noted that gender statistic “is a very important instrument when the state drafts appropriate social-demographic policies, when it is necessary to implement these policies on gender equality principle.”
The report „Women and men in Moldova” includes data regarding natural and migratory movement of the population, occupations, unemployment, health protection, education, welfare and criminality. In the same time, the international statistic is also included in one chapter.
The publication testifies, while men’s situation is much better to field political participation and position in structures of central and local administration, having the great majority of leading positions, their social situation present certain concerning data, especially to matters of health and life expectancy. Thus, it is estimated that at birth men’s life expectancy is reduced with 8 years than women’s.
Meanwhile, data point out that men are disposed to diseases regarding infections of respiratory system and different infections, they also are twice numerous than women in case of industrial accidents. They are as well on the first spot concerning the number of accidents with serious results. This report mentions as well that men are more numerous in the list of unemployed and emigrants, as well in the statistic presenting criminality in the country.
Women represent 52% of country’s population, and girls represent the majority in high schools and higher education. Therefore, female population has a very reduced representation in parliament – the fifth part of deputies, only one woman in ministries in the whole government, only one women as district chairman, and 133 women as mayors, representing 15% of the total number of mayors of villages and districts.
