National Bank issues two commemorative silver coins

The National Bank of Moldova will unveil on December 18 two co-commemorative silver coins both for circulation and numismatic purposes. The face value of the coins is 50 lei and 10 lei, respectively. There will be issued 500 of copies of each kind. The 50 lei coin continues the series themed “Remarkable Personalities” series and is dedicated to the 350th death anniversary of Metropolitan Varlaam. The frontal face of the coin represents the Moldovan coat of arms while the back shows the effigy of Varlaam. The coin weighs 16.5 grams and measures 30 mm in diameter. The 10 lei coin is part of the “Red Book” series and displays on the back face the image of a common ground squirrel on a vegetal background. This coin weighs 13.5 grams and measures 24.5 mm in diameter. The commemorative coins will be available at the National Bank and other authorised banks, which will establish the selling price. The price will not exceed by 3% the delivery price established by the National Bank. The coins will be accepted as a means of payment in the national economy in accordance to their face value.
