There is no precondition for shock as regards the development of the Moldovan leu, the central bank's governor Dorin Dragutan said Tuesday, when asked to make forecasts for the exchange rate of the national currency during the Easter holidays, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Dorin Dragutan said the information about the inflows and outflows of foreign currency shows the revenues from exports and the remittances have increased. The imports also rose. Thus, the economy is showing signs of recovery.
“For the time being, these signs are weak, but the Moldova leu will be subject to no great pressure in the near future. The situation on the currency market is normal. The volume of transactions is lower than in March or December last year. No major variations are expected,” the governor said.
Dorin Dragutan also said the Moldovan leu this year is predicted to appreciate slowly. “The situation on the currency market depends on the situation in the economy and certain foreign developments. The supply of currency during the Easter holidays, especially cash, will increase, but it will be absorbed by importers,” Dragutan said.
