The National Award to the value of 100,000 lei will be given on the Independence Day this year too. It will go to ten Moldovans who achieved remarkable results in science, technology, culture, arts and sport, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Government instituted the commission for conferring the National Prize and approved the regulations concerning the selection of candidates. The commission is headed by Prime Minister Vlad Filat and consists of representatives of the Government, creation union, academic circles and civil society. The candidates will be put forward by ministries, the Academy of Sciences, universities, creation unions, sport federations and laureates of the National Award and the State Award. The contest will involve persons who will be accepted by 50% + 1 member of the commission. The voting for choosing the laureates will be secret. A second round of voting will be held if the number of candidates is larger than of the prizes. The members of the commission cannot take part in the contest. The awards will be handed over on August 27. The money for the prizes is allocated from the Government’s reserve fund. The National Award was instituted in 2011 to mark the 20th anniversary of Moldova's independence. The laureates last year were Gheorghe Ghidirim (medicine), Ion Dediu (ecology), Svetlana Cojocaru (mathematics), Vasile Botnaru (agriculture), Isai Cirmu (plastic arts), opera singer Maria Biesu, poets Dumitru Matcovschi and Nicolae Dabija, and sportsman Tudor Casapu.
