Nicolae Platon, chairman of the National Association of Travel Agencies (ANAT), says that he will call on the travel agencies to boycott the tourism market of Romania if no compromise over visa legalisation is reached with the Romanian consular service. At the Press Club on Thursday, Platon said that since Romania introduced the visa regime at the start of this year, the travel companies lost about 40,000 euros as a result of the delayed legalisation of visas or their non-legalisation. The ANAT chairman says that during the past three weeks the Romanian Consulate refused to issue visas to the largest part of the travel agencies. Speaking about the scandal over the alleged illegal visa scam at the Romanian Consulate, the cited source said that he notified the Romanian authorities of such irregularities in July. After the introduction of the visa regime and the incorrect handling of the visa issuing process, the Romanian market lost practically all the Moldovan clients, Nicolae Platon stated.
