A committee consisting of representatives of the pro-European forces and civil society should be set up to ensure varied representativeness at the National Assembly, said representatives of the intellectuality in Chisinau after President Maia Sandu convoked a National Assembly “European Moldova” for May 21. They noted that as the representatives of the pro-Russian opposition also intend to stage events in central Chisinau, the unity of the pro-European forces is crucial, IPN reports.

Writer Vitalie Ciobanu said the President’s call to the people with pro-European views to come to an event in central Chisinau is welcome and will represent a message to the international community concerning Moldova’s European integration desideratum.

“President Maia Sandu’s call stirred the expectations of the democratic and pro-European forces. Over the last few months, we have seen the streets of the capital city full of protesters paid and lured by the criminal Shor. Many people wonder why the authorities allow the Great National Assembly Square to be used by these criminals. President Maia Sandu’s initiative came at an opportune moment. I expect we will have many citizens who would like to state their pro-European option,” writer Vitalie Ciobanu said in the program “Secrets of the Power” on JurnalTV channel.

For his part, historian Octavian Țîcu noted that the government should not monopolize the event of May 21 and should make sure that all the pro-European and pro-Romanian forces come together at the National Assembly.

“The Moldovans split into two camps – those who will come and those who will not come. Out of those who will come, some will do it unconditionally as they consider they are Europeans, while others would like to be invited to a more extended dialog. I refer to the political parties that claim a common inheritance with the PAS over the European integration course. The unionists who are Europeans, but want closer relations with Romania will also come,” said Octavian Țîcu, noting there are several political parties that should be invited and the leaders of these parties should stand by President Sandu.

The Party of Socialists and the Movement for People led by representatives of the Shor Party also announced their intention to stage events in central Chisinau on May 21, when the National Assembly “European Moldova” is to be held.

“Clouds are gathering over this Assembly as Shor and Dodon with their representatives will also take to the streets that day. That’s why we need unity more than ever. We must not transform this Assembly into a party event, into the event of one party. We must do our best to make sure all those who share the pro-European option feel represented. It is not yet late to set up a committee of this Assembly, which will include representatives of civil society, of different political forces. The Government, regrettably, hasn’t yet learned to have a dialogue with all the pro-European forces. New pro-European parties appeared now namely because this dialogue is absent,” said writer Constantin Cheianu.

President Maia Sandu’s initiative to organize a National Assembly “European Moldova” comes in connection with the European Political Community Summit that is to take place in Chisinau on June 1. This event is to involve 47 heads of state and government and leaders of the European Union.
