A contingent of the National Army is taking part in the multinational exercise Rapid Trident-2018 that is held at the Yavoriv training center in Lvov Oblast of Ukraine during September 3-15, IPN reports, with reference to the Ministry of Defense.

Major Nicolae Frăsineac, commander of the Moldovan contingent, said the goal of the exercise is to improve interoperability between the service members of the participating states and to train them for international peacekeeping missions.

The major said the about 70 officers and sub-officers of the Brigade “Moldova” and Peacekeeping Battalion No. 22 who take part in the exercise perform missions typical of peacekeeping operations, such as escorting of the convoy, patrolling and medical evacuation.

This year Rapid Trident brought together about 2,300 service members from Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Lithuania, Moldova, Poland, Romania, the U.S., Turkey, and Ukraine.

The National Army has taken part in this exercise starting with 2006.
