The last consignment of solid pesticides was removed from Soroca district on May 5. The about 34 tonnes of toxic waste, collected in 18 villages of the district and kept at the Cosauti central depot, will be destroyed by burning in the Polish town Dabrowa Gornicza, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué from the National Army.

Mariana Grama, head of the Logistic Command’s Ecology and Environment Protection Division, said the pesticides were collected in 2007 in the following settlements: Badiceni, Bulboci, Cainarii Vechi, Cosauti, Dubna, Iarova, Oclanda, Ocolina, Redi-Ceresnovat, Parlita, Rublenita, Rudi, Stoicani, Solcani, Tatarauca Veche, Vasilcau, Volovita, Vadeni, and Vasoca.

According to Mariana Grama, the specialized group of the National Army on May 6 will travel to Tarnova village of Donduseni district, where the new consignment of pesticides collected in the given region will be prepared for removal.

The pesticides are collected and destroyed within the NATO Partnership for Peace (PfP) Trust Fund project for the Destruction of Pesticides and Dangerous Chemicals. The Trust Fund was created with the assistance of the NATO member states, including Romania, which is a leader of the project, Turkey, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Norway, Italy, Belgium, Finland, Ireland, Estonia, Luxemburg, and Japan.
