Officers of the National Anticorruption Center confiscated documents concerning the road repair project “Genesis” from the General Public Transport and Communications Division, the Division’s head Igor Gamretski announced on June 24, quoted by IPN.

Igor Gamretski said that on June 21 the officers came to the Division with an ordinance authorizing them to confiscate bookkeeping records and documents concerning the verification of works within the project. They wrote a report on the documents taken away.

Contacted by IPN, the Center’s press officer Angela Starinski confirmed that the anticorruption officers searched the office of a Chisinau company and confiscated documents from the General Public Transport and Communications Division.

“The company manager is suspected of abuse of power for material or other personal interests. He is liable to a fine of 3,000 to 8,000 lei or up to three years in jail,” said Angela Starinski.

The investigation was launched following illegalities identified by the Center in the process of repairing a number of streets in Chisinau. The damage caused to the municipality was estimated at about 8 million lei. Angela Starinski added that no person has been yet charged.
