The first-ninth graders will sing the national anthem at school every Monday. The Government approved a bill to this effect, submitted by a group of lawmakers, IPN reports.

The anthem will be also sung in the opening of large-scale cultural exhibitions, district, zonal, national or international contests and festivals held in Moldova.

The national anthem will be published not only in the first spelling book, but also in reading textbooks for first-fourth graders, textbooks teaching the Romanian language and literature, Russian, Ukrainian, Gagauz and other languages of the national minorities living in Moldova and in the history, civic education and musical education textbooks.

Before the Government’s meeting, the National Participation Council recommended the Cabinet not to endorse the bill providing that the school students should sing the national anthem every Monday. In a news conference at IPN, the Council’s head Sergiu Ostaf said the civic spirit and the love for the country should not be cultivated by such methods. He underlined that it’s better to critically discuss the appearance of the national anthem and state symbols rather than singing the anthem.
