A number of national and local roads in the country are snowy and thus impassable. Sergiu Capatana, of the State Road Administration, has told IPN that three sections of national roads and 17 local roads are blocked because of the snowstorm.
“Now the situation on the national roads is satisfactory, except for some sectors, which are covered with a thick layer of snow. The sections Ciumai-Burlaceni and Vulcanesti-Slobozia Mare of the Chisinau-Cimislia-Vulcanesti-Giurgiulesti highway are now unreachable. On the public road Anenii Noi-Causeni-Stefan Voda, Olanesti and Tudora villages are inaccessible to traffic,” stated Sergiu Capatana, adding that the streets to 17 villages in several southern districts are impassable.
He noted that traffic restrictions for heavy vehicles are imposed on some parts of the roads because many motorists do not outfit their vehicles with antiskid chains. Additional snowplows are involved where the traffic is blocked or moves with difficulty. Snow removal works are performed nonstop.
The Border Police warn the population to avoid travelling to Ukraine or Romania or crossing these countries because the situation on many national and international roads is uncertain owing to the unfavorable weather conditions. All the border crossing points work as usual, except for Tudora-Starocazacie, Palanca-Maiaki-Udobnoe and Giurgiulesti-Galati through which traffic goes with difficulty.
