A National Agency for Public Health will be created in Moldova. This will include all the subdivisions with inspection duties in healthcare, the National Public Health Center and the similar local centers, the National Health Management Center and the National Health Assessment and Accreditation Council. The initiative forms part of the concept of the reform of the state public health surveillance system worked out by the Ministry of Health, IPN reports.
The reform will be implemented in three stages, as of July 1, 2017. At the first stage, the public health system will be reorganized by incorporating a number of agencies and subdivisions into it. The functions will be delimited between the new body and the National Food Safety Agency so that the inspection duties in the food sector are carried out by one institution.
According to the authors of the bill, the reform has been awaited as the current public health system faces many problems. This inherited many of the drawbacks of the old system. The reform is designed to create a modern public health model, with emphasis on risk prevention and counteracting and promotion of a healthy lifestyle.
