“We are the generation that will reforest Moldova” is the slogan under which this autumn’s national afforestation campaign started. President Maia Sandu has called on the public to plant trees “for a greener country, for a healthy environment, for the well-being of all of us”.
“We need more forests so that we can all enjoy more water in wells and rivers, cleaner air, more fertile soil. That is why we launched and promote the national afforestation program. The afforestation program is about what country we are building for ourselves and our children. I believe that we are the generation that will reforest Moldova”, said the president in a video address posted on Facebook.
This year, foresters from the whole country made an effort to grow 35 million saplings and prepared ground to be forested in 168 localities across the country. There are four thousand hectares of land that are expected to be forested by the end of this year.

This autumn’s tree-planting campaign is launched as part of the National Afforestation Program, which provides for the rehabilitation and creation of new forests, on an area of 145 thousand hectares during 10 years (2023-2032).
