Lawyer Natalia Moloșag was appointed ombudswoman for a seven-year term by Parliament, by the votes of 57 MPs, IPN reports.
The special commission for the selection of candidates proposed Nataliei Moloșag and Andrei Brighidin to Parliament for confirmation. Natalia Moloșag gained more votes.
BCS MP Vasile Bolea said the contest to choose candidates was nontransparent, while Natalia Moloșag is in a conflict of interest with President Maia Sandu as she in 2020 represented Sandu’s interests in court when this was a candidate for President on behalf of the Party of Action and Solidarity.
In reply, Natalia Moloșag said the Socialist MP Vasile Bolea is rather in a conflict of interest as she formed part of the commission that refused to issue a lawyer’s license to him.
Natalia Moloșag has served as a lawyer since 2006. In 2009, she attracted public attention after she defended the interests of a number of young people who were ill-treated by the police as a result of the April protests. In 2011, she was named a member of the lawyer licensing commission.
