“We now have the largest number of refugees in the history of the Republic of Moldova, but we do our best to manage the situation, including with the support of our partners,” Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița stated in a meeting in Chisinau with Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Niels Annen, IPN reports.

Natalia Gavrilița said the inflow of Ukrainian refugees continues rising. The authorities provide the people with what they need in the short run, but they bank on the assistance of the partners, including Germany, in increasing financing for diminishing the economic and social effects of the crisis.

Niels Annen said the German delegation’s visit to Chisinau is aimed at identifying solutions to problems generated by the large number of refugees coming from Ukraine. “We come from Palanca where we saw impressive cooperation between border police officers and volunteers. These peoples’ dedication is admirable, while the Government’s coordination effort is an example for many of us,” noted the German official.

During February 24 – March 4, almost 170,000 persons entered Moldova through Moldovan-Ukrainian border crossing points. About 70,000 of them stopped in Moldova.
