Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița summed up the results of the joint meeting of the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the Government of Romania in a program on the public TV channel. She said the Moldovan-Romanian cooperation is fruitful and the agreements signed by the sides yesterday will contribute to improving the lives of citizens. The Premier expressed her gratitude for the non-reimbursable financial assistance of €100 million that will help modernize Moldova’s villages, IPN reports.
Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița said she was satisfied with the results of the joint meeting of the Governments of Romania and the Government of the Republic of Moldova. She said that even if the regional context is tense, the authorities in Chisinau and Bucharest focus on their common agenda, creating projects for the benefit of the citizens.
“It was a successful day with very important decisions. It goes to this generous donation made by the Government of Romania for the Republic of Moldova. We will decide together with the Government of Romania how to exactly use these resources, but we preliminarily agreed that a large part of this money will go for the European Village program, to supplement the National Regional and Local Development Fund. This means the money will be used to implement projects in localities, to light the streets, to build water supply and sewerage systems, to repair schools and kindergartens. With the assistance of Romania, there were reconstructed over 1,000 kindergartens and it was assistance that the people felt indeed,” Natalia Gavrilița stated in the program “Good Evening” on the public TV channel.
The Premier said some of the agreements that were signed yesterday already produce results. The agreement on the reduction of roaming charges can be already implemented, while the works to design the bridge over the Prut, which will connect Ungheni in Romania and Ungheni in Moldova, already started.
“We already saw the effects of the roaming agreement. An operator announced that the roaming charges for the citizens who use mobile phones will decrease drastically as from March 1. This means the money will remain in citizens’ pockets. We have agreements to build and rehabilitate the two bridges. A new Ungheni-Ungheni bridge will shorten the traveling time to Iasi by 30 minutes and will create opportunities for businesspeople from both of the sides. This bridge will also connect us to the network of European highways,” stated Natalia Gavrilița.
Romania yesterday offered the Republic of Moldova non-reimbursable financial assistance to the value of €100 million. A €100 million non-reimbursable financial assistance agreement was signed by the Republic of Moldova and Romania also in 2010. The document expired at the end of last March and the official Chisinau managed to use only €32 million of the €100 million.
