During his visit in the US, the president of the Dignity and Truth Platform Party (PPDA) Andrei Nastase urged the American officials to differentiate between the interests of the government and the demands of the Moldovan people. The politician met with US senators, officials of the Department of State’s Bureau for European and Eurasian Affairs, members of the Congressional Moldovan Caucus. He also talked to experts of the Council for Foreign Relations and of the Center for International and Strategic Studies, IPN reports.
According to a PPDA press release, the meetings focused on topics regarding Moldova’s current situation, the recent political developments, the presidential elections on October 30 and the need to liberate Moldovan institutions through free and fair elections under the monitoring of international bodies.
Andrei Nastase said that “the current oligarchic regime has discredited the very idea of democracy”. He stressed that people’s patience is running out and they realize the need to change the corrupt political class. “We rely on the support of our development partners in this attempt of the Moldovan people to get their country back. In this regard, it is important to differentiate between the interests of the anti-popular government, who wants to stay in power at any cost, and the desire of the people to live with dignity in a free country”, explained the PPDA leader.
The American experts and officials assured that they are carefully monitoring the situation in Moldova and are interested in the developments.
