The National Agency for Energy Regulation (NAER) requested the operators that raised the prices of oil products to provide relevant information for examination so as to exclude eventual situations of violation of the methodology for calculating and applying the prices of oil products, IPN reports.

The Agency noted the decision adopted on July 16 does not refer to the profit margins on the retailing of fuels and it could not influence the pump prices at filling stations up. The average Platts quotations during July 1-16 grew by 567.85 lei/tone of gasoline, 209.6 lei/tonne of diesel fuel and 991.89 lei/tonne of liquefied petroleum gas and these influence directly the final price set by operators.

Under the methodology for calculating and applying the prices of oil products, the selling price of each type of fuel is set by each oil seller at a level that cannot exceed the highest price that is determined based on the average value of the Platts quotations and the official average exchange rate of the national currency for 14 days prior to the importation day. The price of the new imported batches is set according to the highest entry price of these, in chronological order.

For each operator to be able to set the highest prices, NAER daily publishes the average value of the Platts quotations and the average exchange rate of the national currency for 14 previous days on its website.

By the Agency’s decision of July 16, the values of the profit margins on the wholesale of the main oil products and liquefied petroleum gas for the second half of 2021 were modified. This way, for a tone of imported gasoline or diesel fuel, the profit margins will be by 380 lei higher, while for liquefied petroleum gas by 150 lei higher. The Agency noted the decision was taken as a matter of urgency following the regional crisis on the oil products market and the necessity of supplying with fuels the agricultural sector, transport companies and the participants in the retail oil market that do not have licenses authorizing the import of oil products.

Recently, a number of gas stations increased the prices of gasoline ‘95’ and diesel fuel by 0.15 lei a liter.
