For the first time, a cultural institution of Moldova takes part in the global event MuseumWeek whose goal is to treat during seven days seven themes that represent the social and cultural ecosystem promoted through digital communication platforms for diversifying the public. The National Museum of Arts of Moldova is the first museum that undertook to implement this project, IPN reports.

MuseumWeek is an international community of professionals working in Galleries, Libraries, Archives, Museums, Science and Music Centers, or any other cultural organizations, interested into having a social impact through Culture, by organizing online and offline events. MuseumWeek also brings together a global community of artists and digital creators committed to social change.

According to the international coordinator of MuseumWeek Benjamin Benita, the event is promoted worldwide and the project involves institutions from over 100 countries. “Culture is slightly reserved and, owing to the social networking sites, a method of democratization and of making information more accessible is tested through this event. The method of consuming culture develops together with the digital sphere: more succinct, consumable content in a much faster way. But culture is consumed,” Benjamin Benita stated for IPN, noting he is glad that Moldova has joined in and this is a good start for a country with a culture in transition, from physical art to digital art and consumption.

“This year the global theme is Culture, innovation and society. Emphasis is placed on the promotion of a more explicit content about innovation, creators, freedom, sexuality, environment, life lessons and what makes us vibrate – the dance. It is a project into which more important players form the field of culture should be engaged. During almost a week, we have discussed global themes with culture journalists from Mexico who are in Chisinau, to learn their viewpoint on culture consumption and its promotion among young people at national level, with museographers from Odessa who found refuge in Chisinau. We staged creation workshops with artists, including Ruslan Roșca, and discussed taboo issues, such as sexuality in arts. During a week, we ensured powerful online presence,” said Alla Tofan, coordinator of MuseumWeek in Moldova, noting they hope the event this year will be more extensive and will be more supported.

Backed by UNESO, MuseumWeek is a global event celebrated since 2014. In Moldova, it is promoted by the National Museum of Art of Moldova and is supported by the Union of Plastic Artists of Moldova and people of culture.
