Today's historic vote, with a clear majority, shows that we are united in the European Parliament to further support the Republic of Moldova in the coming period. The statement was made by MEP Siegfried Mureșan, who points out that today's result is also the merit of the pro-European leadership in Chisinau and the people of the Republic of Moldova who resisted threats from the Russian Federation and clearly supported the country's European course, IPN reports.

Siegfried Muresan noted that the €1.9 billion Growth Plan, approved by the European Parliament, is the largest support instrument in the history of the Republic of Moldova.

"As the European Parliament's chief negotiator on this file, I am very happy that we have obtained the final vote on this instrument and the money will soon reach the Republic of Moldova", the MEP noted.

According to him, after three months of negotiations, an agreement has been reached on this facility, which includes three very important things for Moldova. First of all, the facility was approved faster than other similar legislative dossiers. In this way, the funds will reach the Republic of Moldova as early as April.

Secondly, there is an increase of EUR 200 million in pre-financing for the Republic of Moldova. "At my proposal, we have obtained an increase in pre-financing from 7% to 18%, which means an increase of more than €200 million in the pre-financing amount, up to more than €300 million," said Siegfried Muresan.

Thirdly, an increase of €100 million in the total amount of funding, from €1.8 billion to €1.9 billion. The €100m includes the €60m support for the Transnistrian region announced by the European Commission in January.

The European Parliament today approved by 499 votes the €1.9 billion support to Moldova. 520 million are grants and around €1.4 billion - credit. The money will be allocated to projects in energy, agriculture, infrastructure, justice reform and the fight against corruption.
