A man from Chisinau aged 30 was shot dead in the square of the Lyceum “Gheorghe Asachi” on the night of October 2. The police arrested four suspects – three men and a woman. One of the men and the woman are citizens of Ukraine. These were caught when they tried to leave the country, IPN reports.
According to the Chisinau Police Division, the victim was in central Chisinau together with another two persons. It is alleged that a quarrel started with one of the aggressors, who formed part of a group of merry persons, as a result of a joke. More young people approached later and started to beat the victim, who took out a legally possessed gun to defend himself. During the dispute, another man dispossessed him of the gun and fired three shots, injuring mortally the 30-year-old man. The police are also examining the version that the young man killed himself accidentally during the clash.
The Border Police said all the border crossing points, especially those located on the border with Ukraine, stepped up control measures following a General Police Inspectorate report about the wanted suspected murderers. The first Ukrainian, aged 24, was identified among the passengers of a bus running on the Chisinau – Odessa route at the Palanca border crossing point at 9:40am on October 2. The Ukrainian woman aged 20, who is an acquaintance of the first arrested young man, and a 48-year-old man whose nationality was not made public were arrested at the same checkpoint two hours later. These traveled by a bus with the same route.
