Municipality to assume payment of school nurses’ salaries

The Chisinau authorities will pay the salaries for the school nurses in the municipality of Chisinau starting August 1. Previously the salaries were paid from the State Budget. Head of the Division for Education, Science, Youth and Sports Tatiana Naghnibeda said that the City Hall will allot about MDL 670 thousand by the end of 2007 to pay the salaries of the school nurses in Chisinau. The problem of the school nurses was brought again into discussion after the danger of a flu outbreak occurred at the end of the last year and it was necessary to prepare the schools to handle the situation. Back then, the National Company for Medical Insurances (CNAM) insisted upon dismissing the nurses from the pre-higher education establishments, arguing by a two times higher number of nurses on the same territory, the same number of population being serviced by two nurses – in the place of residence and in the education institutions located on a given territory. Therefore, CNAM says, both nurses have to be paid. Tatiana Nagnibeda said previously that the educational establishments can not survive without nurses, especially during epidemics, so the city councilmen decided that nurses shall be considered as school personnel and their professional improvement would be the sole responsibility of the Ministry of Health.
