Municipality increases funds for school and kindergarten meals by 6 mln lei

The municipal authorities have increased the annual nourishment funds for schools and kindergartens in Chisinau by 6 mln lei. Thus, the volume of financial resources planned in the municipal budget make up this year about 18 mln lei. Head of Education, Science, Youth and Sports Division (ESYSD) Tatiana Nagnibeda stated at Monday’s City Hall session that a larger number of children benefit from free school meals as from the second quarter. This is due to the fact that about 500 children that suffered from tuberculosis are enjoying gratis meals. The financial resources were increased in particular for nutrition of pupils in auxiliary schools and boarding kindergartens. First to fourth graders and about 6,000 children of V-IX forms in Chisinau coming from socially underprivileged families have their breakfast free of charge. Tatiana Nagnibeda mentioned that, once the municipal budget increased the financial allocations, the menu of children have been supplemented with salads and juice. Regarding the quality of the kindergarten and school meals, ESYSD head mentioned that it is strictly monitored, and thorough inspections will be carried out by education divisions in the districts more often. Interim mayor Veaceslav Iordan charged ESYSD to carry out within ten days inspections regrading the quality of meals in all schools and kindergartens in the municipality. A report on the inspections’ results will be presented to local authorities on February 16.
