For the first time in 2013, there were introduced two new services to help the families with children suffering from severe disabilities. For the purpose, there were instituted 75 posts of personal assistants who look after children confined to bed. A mobile team was created to provide kinetotherapeutic services at home, IPN reports.
Summing up the results of 2013, the head of the Chisinau Child Rights Protection Division Svetlana Chifa said the placement services were extended, while the number of families of pre-professional parent assistants was increased by about 20%.
“For the first time since the foundation of the service, we managed to place newborns and children studying at boarding schools. The number of children put up for national adoption rose, while of abandoned children decreased. Ten years ago, we had 217 cases of abandonment, in 2012 – 18 cases, while this year – 15 cases,” stated Svetlana Chifa.
She added that the number of children placed at the specialized municipal house declined to 35. The institution has a capacity of 110 places.
Two projects are being worked out to develop a financial support service for women in situation of risk and to amend the regulations of the specialized municipal house by which another two new services will be introduced – the resource center for the child and family and the community house for children with severe disabilities from boarding schools.
