The Chisinau Municipality bought two second-hand buses from Norway. They are currently tested on two municipal routes: to Bubuieci and to Colonita, Info-Prim Neo reports. Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca said that the Volvo buses have 100 seats, low floor and run on liquefied gas, which is cheaper and less polluting than gasoline. The vehicles’ age is 10 years, but they are in a good condition. Dorin Chirtoaca explained that this testing is meant to show the development trend of public transport as small capacity units are replaced by larger ones, including on routes administered by private carriers. Director of the Urban Bus Company Iacob Capcelea said that the park had 136 buses, while the needed number was no less than 250. Among the advantages of tested buses, he named the reduced fuel consumption, which is 20%-30% less than the consumption of vehicles running on gasoline. A bus costs €14,000.
