Municipal merit scholarships for 2007 will be awarded on City Day

The Chisinau Municipal Council will award 200 municipal merit scholarships on the City Day. A scholarship is worth 1,000 lei. The candidates will be selected according to the regulations concerning the awarding of municipal merit scholarships. The Chisinau City Hall’s Public Relations Department said that 85 scholarships will be offered to preuniversity education establishments, 35 - to sports schools, 33 – to art schools, lyceums and colleges. The winners of the Festival of Children Talented in Music “Red, Yellow, Blue” will receive nine scholarships, while the winners of the 2006Pythice Games held in Kazakhstan’s capital Astana will get 18 scholarships. The old people with special merits in different areas of activity will be awarded 20 scholarships. The municipal merit scholarships have been awarded to the most industrious Chisinau students from 1996. From 1996, the scholarships have been also offered to old people with special merits. During ten years, the financial resources had been collected during the “Businessman of the Year” Ball. Since last year, the expenses are covered from the local budget.
