All the buildings of the municipal housing stock that remained without water after the water pipes got frozen were reconnected to the supply. Works continue to be performed at pipes of private houses, the head of “Apa-Canal Chisinau” Constantin Becciev said Monday, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
“The unfreezing of pipes is a difficult process. There were cases when the restoration works lasted for two weeks. We hope that all the consumers will be soon reconnected to the water supply. It is for the first time since 1963 when such a large number of pipes froze up,” Constantin Becciev said, adding that the losses sustained by the water supplier have not been yet determined.
Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca asked “Apa-Canal Chisinau” and the owners of the given water pipes to repair the branch pipes that got frozen in January-February. He said that in order to avoid such problems in the future, all the pipes should be laid at the required depth and be appropriately insulated thermally.
A broader report on the situation of the water and sewer pipes in the municipality of Chisinau will be presented by specialists of the association “Moldova Apa-Canal” and “Apa-Canal Chisinau” in a news conference this week. There will be designed a plan of measures for protecting the branch pipes and wells against low temperatures.
