Municipal Council confirms water supplier’s right to use toponym Chisinau in company’s name

At the meeting on February 15, the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) confirmed the right of JSC “Apa-Canal Chisinau” (ACC) to use the toponym Chisinau in the name of the company for ten years. ACC addressed an official application to the Chisinau City Hall asking for permission to use the toponym. Under the law on products’ brands and origin names, the trademark is registered by the State Agency for Industrial Property Protection for a ten-year period. By a decision of the Chisinau City Hall of May 2002, the water supplier was allowed to use the toponym for ten years. According to the regulations concerning the method and conditions of granting authorization for using the local symbols and official or historical name of the Chisinau municipality approved in July 2006, this right was to be confirmed. Under the CMC decision, the right to use the toponym Chisinau is transferred to a third individual or legal entity only with the consent of the municipal councilors. The Chisinau City Hall has a 100% holding in JSC “Apa-Canal Chisinau”.
