Muncesti water main to be relaunched after extensive rehabilitation

The water main in Chisinau's Muncesti neighborhood will be reopened shortly after undergoing extensive replacement and repair in the past two months. Due to re-connecting operations, the water utility Apa-Canal Chisinau announced that service will be suspended over the weekend at multiple of addresses, mainly located in the central part of the city. The utility said in a press release that pipes were replaced entirely. Whereas the old pipes were well past their life span, leaking and failing frequently, the new ones are expected to serve at least 50 years. The main rehabilitation will be followed by roadworks to replace the asphalt. Due to re-connection, supply will be suspended in part on a number of streets in Chisinau's center, including Alecsandri, Columna, Armeneasca, Bulgara, Tighina, and Stefan cel Mare. The repair works are part of the municipal infrastructure rehabilitation program. Works have already started on another water main on Burebista Street, with a subsequent asphalt replacement. Similar rehabilitation works are under way on Belinski Street and will start later in July on Lupu Street. Further, a new major pipe will be put into commission shortly on Columna Street, improving the service, the utility said.
