Apa-Canal Chisinau SA Friday put into operation the second store where the mud is taken after it is processed, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The company’s director Constantin Becciev said that until now the mud from the Wastewater Treatment Station was taken to one store. “The second store is 250,000 cubic meters in area. We will have no storage-related problems during the next five years,” he stated.
From geotubes, the mud is taken to the stores and will be then transported to fields, where it will be used as natural fertilizers. “We will carry the mud from the first store to the fields and take the other mud to the second store. By the time we finish with the second store, the first store will be emptied,” said Constantin Becciev.
The mud to the stores will be taken in geotubes so as to prevent the unpleasant smell from spreading. “We managed to achieve or goal. Since last August, when we launched the project involving geotubes, we haven’t had unpleasant smell in Chisinau,” said Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca.
Apa-Canal Chisinau will ask the Chisinau Municipal Council to transfer a plot of 200 hectares to the company, on which to show how the mud can be used as fertilizer for the land.
Until August 2010, the mud had been dried on open-air platforms occupying about 32 hectares. The mud started to be taken away in September 2009. The next project aimed at modernizing the Wastewater Treatment Station costs about €100 million.
