Now that the Chisinau Wastewater Treatment Station was modernized and reconstructed, the mud stored there will be dehydrated according to new technology. The Chisinau public utility said the current geotubes-based dehydration method will no longer be used, IPN reports.

In a press release, SA “Apa-Canal Chisinau” says that 2016 was the last year when geotubes were used to dry the mud. Last week, there were completed the works to transport the mud from geotextile tubes from specially laid out platforms to the storage areas of the Chisinau Wastewater Treatment Station. The workers collected about 80,000 cubic meters of mud overall.

Currently, works are being carried out to clean and disinfect the platforms and access ways for transporting the mud. The mud processing technology used since 2009 proved its efficiency. It enables to reduce the areas of mud platform ten times and the pestilential smell emitted by the processed mud.

The station is modernized within the Key Investments Program that is financed with loans provided by the EBRD and EIB. SA “Apa-Canal Chisinau” said the process of modernizing the station includes the construction of mud processing installations that ensure anaerobic fermentation, mechanic dehydration and production of biogas, electric power and heat.
