The snap parliamentary elections are a necessity for the Republic of Moldova. The Parliament elected in 2019 cannot represent the interests of the Bessarabian Romanians. This is the position formulated by the Unirea (Union) Political Movement (MPU) after it took note of President Maia Sandu‘s decree to dissolve Parliament and to call snap parliamentary elections for July 11. The unionists said the multiple crises witnessed in 2020-2021, but primarily the pandemic, showed the failed character of the Republic of Moldova, which cannot protect its citizens, IPN reports.
“As the parliamentary elections do not include a runoff vote, as the presidential elections do and where about 10% of the votes gained in the first round of voting from other candidates went to Maia Sandu, we note again that no vote should be lost and therefore, given the danger posed by Dodon-Shor-Plahotniuc, who attempted a new coup against the Constitutional Court the previous days, plus the populism of Our Party and Usatyi, the most efficient solution is for all the pro-Europeans and unionists to run in elections under a common list, in a common electoral bloc,” says the MPU’s statement.
The movement notes that the presence of a unionist group in Parliament is necessary given that the PAS as well as the parties of the left and some of the center-right parties lay increased emphases on “the civil nation” and other notions that cultivate the primitive Moldovenism. “The Union Political Movement in the snap parliamentary elections will openly and intransigently plead for the swift Union of the Republic of Moldova and Romania. For this objective to be achieved, we need a solid unionist parliamentary group in the Parliament in Chisinau, which would catalyze the union of the two Romanian states,” said the unionists.
The MPU pleads for the union of all the pro-Romanian forces by identifying the best and most prolific solution for taking part in the parliamentary elections.
