A bill defining ‘selection hunting’ and how such hunting can be organized and held was passed by Parliament on March 7, IPN reports.

The bill was drafted based on the Parliament’s decision on the report of the commission of inquiry into the handling of the fatal hunting incident in the Domneasca Forest, of December 23, 2012, by the competent bodies
.

Deputy Minister of the Environment Lazar Chirica said selection hunting is the hunting of sick and injured animals and of animals with evident behavioral deviations, exclusively by specialists working for forestry units. The method of organizing and holding the hunting is defined by regulations worked out by the central forestry authority.

According to Lazar
Chirica, the law will have a special importance for the protection of the hunting fauna in Moldova. It will enable to stop hunting in natural areas protected by the state and to regulate selection hunting.
