MPs observe a moment’s silence in memory of Gheorghe Vrabie

The MPs started the April 1 sitting by observing a moment’s silence in memory of the designer of the Moldovan leu and national emblem Gheorghe Vrabie, IPN reports.

Deputy Speaker of Parliament Liliana Palihovici, who chairs the sitting, said that Gheorghe Vrabie died on March 31 at the age of 77. She offered her condolences to his family.

Gheorghe Vrabie was born in Calinesti, Balti, on March 21, 1939. He designed Moldova’s national emblem, the flag of the municipality of Chisinau and the Moldovan leu. He studied at the Academy of Painting, Architecture and Sculpture “I. Repin” in Saint Petersburg in 1962-1967. He illustrated a number of Romanian and universal literature books.
